Jake Gyllenhaal forgot Dennis Quaid played dad on Day After Tomorrow
“Whoa. You just blew me away,” Gyllenhaal told a reporter, who pointed out that his “Strange World” co-star played his father in the 2004 film.
Disney’s latest animated adventure, Strange World, brings together Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal as father and son. But savvy viewers of Roland Emmerich’s 2004 disaster film The Day After Tomorrow will remember that Quaid and Gyllenhaal have played father and son before, even if they didn’t share much screen time — so you’ll be forgiven will if you missed the casting.
Apparently, Gyllenhaal himself seems to have forgotten that he once played Dennis Quaid’s son in this film. A recent Yahoo Entertainment interview has gone viral over Gyllenhaal’s apparent confusion over Quaid ever playing his father. Watch the video below.
“You and Jake obviously played father and son in ‘The Day After Tomorrow,'” the reporter tells Quaid.
Then Gyllenhaal interjects: “We did? Oh oh oh! Wow! That’s the guy who played my father.”
“It’s the first time we’ve been in the same room together,” Quaid said. “This is me.”
Gyllenhaal added: “Wow, that’s cool. You know we did a lot of interviews and you just blew me away.”
Apparently, the two actors didn’t really spend much time together in the climate disaster movie released 18 years ago, since both characters existed in different places. Jack Hall, played by Quaid, is a NOAA paleoclimatologist who sets out to rescue his son Sam (Gyllenhaal), who is stranded in New York during a global catastrophe. On Strange World, Gyllenhaal and Quaid recorded their voices separately.
Or is Gyllenhaal just trolling fans? See for yourself in the video below.
