James Gunn Pours Cold Water on Fan-Requested Romance in ‘Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3’

James Gunn is throwing cold water on a fan-requested romance in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The odd couple in question is none other than Pom Klementieff’s Mantis and David Bautista’s Drax, the two main characters we’ve just seen going through a delightful mishap on Earth to kidnap Kevin Bacon in the Disney Plus TV Movie The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special.

When asked by a fan that Drax and Mantis would eventually fall in love, Klementieff simply replied, “Nooooo.”

Adding to the conversation, writer-director Gunn said, “They’re absolutely not each other’s types.”

Since the introduction of Klementieff’s Mantis in 2017 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2the empathetic alien had a unique comedic chemistry with Drax, though it’s arguably more of a brother-sister vibe they share.

The couple’s quirkiness was brought to the fore for comedic effect Holiday Special and we’d honestly be down to see more of the two playing each other out volume 3. However, we have to admit that Gunn might be right in his assessment that they probably wouldn’t be a good romantic pairing.

However, several fans predicted that there could be a spark between Mantis and Karen Gillan’s Nebula.

In fact, one telltale sign that Mantis might actually be gay — which fans have pointed out — is when she tells Drax she’s coming in Vol 2“I don’t even like the kind of things you are.”

Guess we’ll find out more about the love life of our favorite team in space when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.
