James Gunn wastes no time debunking ‘The Batman’ rumours

If there’s one person in Hollywood you can count on to step in and debunk rumors about their latest projects, it’s her James Gunn. The filmmaker has made a habit of clearing the air when salacious chatter starts sweeping the internet, and he’s wasted no time in turning his attention to it The Batman.

It’s only been a few hours since the first report surfaced claiming that Peter Safran, co-CEO of Gunn and DC Studios, was considering bringing Matt Reeves’ pocket universe into the mainline franchise canon, a decision , which immediately caused excitement as far as the eye could see.

Luckily, the new man in charge of the comics conglomerate’s day-to-day film and television operations has stepped in to offer a firm rebuttal, no doubt due in part to the sheer volume of Twitter users who immediately began posting his Spamming comments and replies.

DC currently has three active universes in play, with Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader currently existing alone, outside of the two main DCUs that started with Zack Snyders man of Steeland the standalone saga currently in development by Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix.

While it cannot be ruled out that the three could meet in something along the lines of a Crisis on Infinite Earths Adjustment, it’s reassuring to know that The Batman has its own sandbox to play in without being thrown into another continuity. It’s early days, but we have a sneaking suspicion that this won’t be the last time Gunn is forced to throw cold water on such speculation.
