James Mangold Slams Trolls For False Indiana Jones 5 Rumors
When Lucasfilm announced that Harrison Ford would wear his legendary whip and fedora one last time in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, fans immediately began speculating about the future of the Indiana Jones series. Few franchises are so synonymous with a single actor, but at a time when no intellectual property is ever truly dead, many wondered if Disney had any plans to pass the baton to Phoebe Waller-Bridge, starring in the upcoming film plays Indiana Jones’ goddaughter.
James Mangold is fed up with this speculation. The filmmaker, who is set to direct The Dial of Destiny for Steven Spielberg, wants fans to know that Harrison Ford is irreplaceable. in one answer On a since-deleted tweet from a fan asking if Waller-Bridge would helm the franchise, Mangold ranted at length about fans spreading misinformation about his film.
“One more time. No one is ‘taking over’ or replacing Indy or putting on their hat, nor will he be ‘obliterated’ by any invention,” Mangold wrote. “And he never was, not in any cut or script — but trolls will troll — that’s how they get their clicks.”
He continued, “And please don’t exhaust me by pointing out that every now and then a troll is ‘right.’ Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. All you have to do is look at set photos and interviews, and you’ll get enough information to start making wild guesses about a movie’s plot.”
Mangold went on to explain that his main complaint isn’t the misinformation, but cynical voices trying to monetize fans’ outrage at something that’s not happening.
“The difference between trolling A-Holes and everyone else is that they try to make $ out of your feelings about other movies and culture war politics,” he wrote. “They make controversial claims that they come from ‘sources’ to generate clicks. Let it go.”
While it sounds like there are no plans for anyone other than Harrison Ford to direct an Indiana Jones film, Disney is reportedly developing a TV series set in the world of the iconic adventure franchise. No plot or casting details have been announced for this project.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is slated to hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
