“The right people are talking,” Curtis said of a hoped-for sequel to the 2003 mother-daughter body swap comedy.
Jamie Lee Curtis is determined to play alongside Lindsay Lohan again.
The Freaky Friday alumni are currently “in talks” with Disney about a sequel to the popular 2003 mother-daughter body swap comedy.
“I’ll be 64 in a week and Lindsay is 36. [A sequel] fits so well,” Curtis told Variety. “We’ve both committed to it and it’s not up to us to do it. It’s Disney to do and I think they’re interested and we’ll talk.”
Curtis added, “There’s no planned date, but we’re talking. people talk The right people are talking… Let’s just try to make another one. We are far away.”
Based on the 1972 novel of the same name by Mary Rodgers, “Freaky Friday” grossed more than $160 million worldwide on a budget of $26 million and earned Curtis a Golden Globe nomination.
The Everything Everywhere All at Once star previously revealed that she was “writing to Disney” in October 2022 to pitch her idea for a sequel. “Let me be grandma! Let me be the old granny changing places. So Lindsay becomes the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon, in all the ways that you would be happy with Mark Harmon,” Curtis said in The View. “And just, I’d love to see Lindsay the hot grandma and I’d love to see how I’m trying to deal with toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world as an old lady.”
Lohan confirmed that she was in touch with Curtis about the planned second part of Freaky Friday.
“We talked about it, yeah,” Lohan told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “Let’s just take the fact that I was filming on set at the time and Jamie Lee Curtis is writing, and you get excited and distracted right away, so I had to get down to earth and say, ‘I’m on set, I have to I focus on.’ Then she said ‘Freaky Friday 2’ and I got even more excited.”
Lohan added, “We’d both be interested.”
Curtis applauded Lohan’s latest film, the critically acclaimed Netflix holiday comedy Falling for Christmas, with the caption, “My little girl’s grown!” on Instagram.
