Tearful Janelle Brown says she's stuck as marriage falls apart:'Financially I have nothing'

Janelle Brown was overcome with emotion as she pondered her next steps after a heated battle with Kody Brown At Sister wives.

On the Sunday, September 10, episode of the TLC reality series, viewers saw Janelle and Kody, both 54, dealing with the fallout from the argument that aired a week earlier. With tears in her eyes, Janelle told the camera that she could barely “recognize” Kody after their screaming match.

“I don’t know who this guy is,” she said on Sunday’s episode. “Maybe he’s always been like that. I don’t know, but I don’t recognize this very mean person.”

Janelle expressed some concerns about her future path as her relationship with Kody became more fractured. “I’m stuck,” she said. “Financially, I have nothing.”

She then compared her experiences with those of her sister Christine Brown, who was the first to leave the plural family. “Christine had the house, I have nothing. My name is on the property along with everyone else,” Janelle explained, referring to the Browns’ land in Flagstaff, Arizona. “Probably no one will cooperate and play along now.”

As the reality of her broken family became clear, Janelle wondered why she didn’t see it coming. “I can’t believe I’m 50 and can’t even do my own thing because I’m so tied to them financially. … I can’t believe I put myself in this position,” she said. “How stupid is that? I know it better.”

Janelle entered into a spiritual connection with Kody in 1993. At this point, he was already legally married to Kody Meri Brown. Kody and Meri, 52, divorced in 2014 but remained in a spiritual marriage until confirming their split earlier this year. Kody and Robyn Brownhis only current wife, legally tied the knot in 2014.

Christine, 51, joined the polygamous family in 1994. Sister wives Fans were shocked when she and Kody announced their split in 2021, but Christine and Janelle have maintained their close bond following the split.

During season 17 Sister Wives: One-on-One Conversations At the December 2022 reunion, Janelle revealed that she and Kody had been “broken up for months.” Tensions between the now-exes remained high throughout season 18, which premiered in August.

The couple, who have six children together, accused each other of “gaslighting” during their “heated” argument on the September 3 episode. “I think you’ve decided you don’t want to be a plural husband anymore,” Janelle told Kody, who she claimed was “pushing” him. [her] out the door.”

Kody, for his part, argued that Janelle sided with Christine instead of his when the dynamic in the family changed. After the “dramatic” fight, Janelle told Kody to “pick up his stuff.”

When Janelle, who lived in an RV on the Browns’ property for several months in 2021, reflected on her “issues” with Kody on Sunday’s episode, she confessed that her problem was not plural marriage itself.

“I still believe that it can be lived and that it has a purpose. … I think I could be in a plural marriage again,” Janelle said on camera, adding that this “opportunity” may never arise. “I mean, it’s kind of weird. You don’t go around looking for people who practice plural marriage.”
