JD Vance wipes the grin from Tim Ryan’s face as he corrects that lie during the Ohio Senate debate

Ohio Senate nominees Democratic Representative Tim Ryan and Republican nominee JD Vance faced each other Monday during their first debate in the general election.

When asked about her views on abortion, Vance, who is pro-life, said he would support “a national minimum standard” to limit mid- to late-term voluntary abortion.

“We’re talking about 5 months old [gestational age] Babies, fully developed babies who can feel pain. No civilized country in the world allows elective abortion so late in pregnancy. I don’t think the United States should be an exception,” he said.

Vance went on to clarify that he believes in “reasonable exceptions” to abortion laws, citing the high-profile case of the 10-year-old rape victim who had to travel from Ohio to get an abortion. He then turned the tables on Ryan, finding that the alleged rapist of the child was in the country illegally.

“I have repeatedly stated that I think that this girl should be able to have an abortion if she and her family so choose,” Vance said. “But let’s talk about this case, because why was a 10-year-old girl raped in our community, primarily in our state? The media and Congressman Ryan talk about it all the time. What they never mention is that this poor girl was raped by an illegal alien, someone who should never have been in this state in the first place. They have voted against financing the border wall so many times, so many times for amnesty. Tim, if you had done your job, she would never have been raped. Do your job on border security. Don’t lecture me about opinions I don’t actually have,” he added.

On “The Rubin Report,” BlazeTV host Dave Rubin shared a clip of the fiery exchange, noting that it’s Republicans who are now more moderate on abortion, as most support some exceptions and are willing to compromise, though they’re basically anti-life, while Democrats like Tim Ryan don’t want abortion restrictions at all.

“JD’s position is he allows exceptions, okay, in the case of rape and maternal health etc. So that’s a more moderate position, okay?” David said. “By the way, Florida … which is considered this very red state with a very mean guy named Ron DeSantis running it, has a 15-week abortion ban, which basically means three and a half months into a pregnancy. And no one is discussing abortion here in Florida…because it’s a compromise,” he added.

“Let’s compare and contrast that with Tim Ryan’s position on abortion,” Dave said to introduce a clip in which Ryan told Bret Baier of Fox News he doesn’t believe in “any limits on abortion at any time.”

“Okay, so tell me guys, what’s the moderate position?” asked David.
