Based on the 2016 science fiction novel by Blake Crouch (and Not to be confused with the three-season Syfy series!), Dark matter is described as “a story about the path not taken”. It follows Jason Dessen (played by Obi Wan Kenobi‘s Joel Edgerton, who is also executive producer on the series), a physicist, professor, and family man who is whisked away into an alternate version of his life one night while walking home on the streets of Chicago.

“The wonder quickly turns into a nightmare as Jason tries to return to his reality amidst the multiverse of lives he could have lived,” reads the official synopsis for the nine-episode series. “In this maze of startling realities, he embarks on a harrowing journey to return to his true family and save them from the most terrible, invincible enemy imaginable: Scarlet Witch even.”

Connelly is set to play Jason’s wife, Daniela.

Dark matter Writer Crouch will write the series and serve as showrunner, and will co-write alongside Matt Tolmach (of the jumanji franchises and poison) and David Manpearl. Jacob Verbruggen (Invasion, the Alienist) will direct the first three episodes.
