Jeremy Renner was hospitalized on New Year’s Day after a ski flight accident.
The Marvel actor and two-time Oscar nominee was flown to a hospital after an incident at his property near Reno, Nevada. Renner has a home near Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe, according to Deadline. A major storm hit the area on New Year’s Eve, leaving 35,000 homes without power.
Renner is in “critical but stable condition with injuries sustained after a weather-related accident while snow plowing earlier this morning,” his spokesman told Deadline. The Hawkeye star is said to have received “excellent care” for his injuries.
IndieWire has reached out to Renner’s rep for comment.
In addition to his MCU appearances, Renner returns January 15 for the second season of Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the series continues Renner’s partnership with the Paramount showrunner following their collaboration in the 2017 film Wind River, which is also spurring a sequel.
The follow-up film, titled Wind River: The Next Chapter, is helmed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier director Kari Skogland and star Martin Sensmeier, who will reprise his role from the original film. The film is being produced by Rob Reiner’s Banner Castle Rock Entertainment. Neither Renner nor his co-stars Elizabeth Olsen and co-stars were involved in the project, and writer-director Sheridan is not involved in The Next Chapter. Patrick Massett and John Zinman (“Tomb Raider,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Gold”) co-wrote the screenplay.
The sequel is confirmed to go into production in January 2023 and follows a series of ritualistic killings on the Wind River reservation. The FBI hires tracker Chip Hanson (Sensmeier) to help catch the serial killer.
Meanwhile, Renner is set to reprise his role as Hawkeye in the upcoming MCU installment, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) has been confirmed to direct from a screenplay by Ant-Man and Wasp: Quantumania screenwriter Jeff Loveness. Cretton is also set to direct the sequel Shang-Chi, starring Simu Liu.
The upcoming fifth Avengers movie will debut in 2025, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, which will conclude Marvel’s Phase 6. While the storyline for The Kang Dynasty remains under wraps, Marvel has confirmed that Jonathan will play Majors Kang after appearing in the Disney+ series Loki. But Majors clarified at San Diego Comic Con 2022 that there are multiple Kangs.
