Jesse Lee Soffer was an integral part Chicago P.D and left an indelible mark on the franchise from day one. As Jay Halstead in the Intelligence Unit, fans have watched the character and actor grow over the past 10 years.
When actors sign long-term contracts for TV shows, nobody really knows if the properties will be hits. Soffer’s instincts about Chicago P.D were spot on in Season 1.
Jesse Lee Soffer understood the show was going to be “bad ***”.
In a recent interview with One Chicago, Soffer relates his favorite scene on the show to this point. It was titled in season 1 episode 12 8:30 p.m, the episode that has the whole city of Chicago terrified after the hospital is bombed. It’s up to the Intelligence Unit to investigate clues leading to one of Soffer’s favorite scenes.
“My favorite scene I’ve done…is where we all get into a tactical line. And I just remember feeling so much adrenaline and so much excitement because I knew this show was going to be pretty bad.”
There were many intense scenes Chicago P.D in 10 years, with kidnappings, murderers, bombings and even tornadoes among all the emotional cliffhangers fans have endured at this NBC staple. Unfortunately for fans, Soffer is leaving the show after season 10.

Variety noted that Soffer has appeared in every episode of the series to date. Jay’s brother, Will Halstead, is a doctor Chicago Med. So, the actor’s departure will be no small matter. Also, Jay is married to his partner Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), which will also leave a hole in her heart. sofer said
“I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support over the past 10 years and want to express my deepest gratitude…Creating this week-by-week hour-long drama has been a labor of love for everyone involved with the show. I will always be proud of my time as a det. Jay Halstead.”
How will Jay leave the show? That’s still a mystery. If past episodes are any indication, Jay will heroically go and save someone’s life. Maybe he sacrifices himself to save Hailey? Maybe he’ll save a school bus full of kids?
The bad thing about Soffer’s departure is that Jay and Hailey have been together for less than two seasons. They ended up kissing in Season 8. In the middle of Season 9, they got married. Don’t these two characters deserve to be together?
As is Chicago P.D Dealing with Soffer’s departure? No matter what happens, there will be no dry eyes.
