Jessica Chastain to headline Broadway’s “A Doll’s House.”

When Jessica Chastain When she teased on Instagram on Monday that a “very exciting announcement” was coming on Wednesday, her adoring followers immediately jumped to the most likely conclusion.

“Evelyn Hugo’s Seven Husbands”? wrote a fan, referring to the Taylor Jenkins Reid novel that inspired Netflix’s forthcoming film adaptation. “If you’re Celia I swear to god I’m going to freak out,” wrote another, specifying the character an overwhelming number of fans are hoping Chastain will play. Others were hoping she would herald her upcoming arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, something she’s expressed an interest in in the past, and we have to admit we were right there.

Unfortunately for Marvel and Hugo Fans ended up making Chastain a very different announcement.

“Guess who’s coming back to Broadway, baby?” the actress asked in a since-deleted video Wednesday, before squeaking, “Me!” As it turns out, Chastain’s next project will be on stage, and her first return to the Marking Broadway since their debut in 2012 The heiress. Next spring she will appear as Nora in Henrik Ibsen’s film A dollhousea production originally slated to be shown in London’s West End before the COVID-19 pandemic derailed that plan.

a dollhouse, which now has its own Instagram account and website, promises to be an “exciting reinvention of Ibsen’s masterpiece” and will be directed by Jamie Lloyd and adapted from Ibsen’s original text by playwright Amy Herzog. It is slated to open on Broadway in Spring 2023, with the rest of the cast yet to be announced.
