John Corbett joins ‘Sex and the City’ sequel ‘And Just Like That’

And just like that, Aidan is back. John Corbett has reprized his role as iconic “Sex and the City” star Aidan Shaw for the second season of the HBO Max revival “And Just Like That…” of the show.

The news was announced Friday night via a post from the show’s Instagram account and star Sarah Jessica Parker’s personal account, which shows the pair in their roles as Aidan and Carrie strolling the streets of Manhattan. But the saga of Corbett’s return to one of his most iconic roles dates back to the months leading up to the show’s first season premiere in December 2021, when the actor seemingly confirmed he was part of the show, per Page Six. When the show aired, the most iconic furniture salesman of the ’90s was nowhere to be seen, and showrunner Michael Patrick King later explained he didn’t know what Corbett was talking about.

Corbett first appeared as Aidan in the third season of “SATC” and was the second most important love interest of the main character Carrie during the six seasons of the show, behind her future husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth). In his history with Carrie, the two broke up after Carrie had an intense affair with Big, eventually reuniting for a brief, doomed engagement. He made his final appearance in season 6 of the show, where it was revealed that he had married and had a baby. Aidan also had a major role in the widely acclaimed 2010 film Sex and the City 2, when he and Carrie met by chance in Abu Dhabi and nearly slept together before eventually breaking up.

On And Just Like That, Carrie is currently single following Mr. Big’s death at the hands of Peloton. Her storyline in season 1 saw her coming to terms with her husband’s death and eventually spreading his ashes around Paris, and in the finale she got back into dating, suggesting she might reconnect with Aidan in season 2 . As for her other friends, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) left her husband Steve (David Eigenberg) for Carrie’s podcast co-host Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is still happily married to Harry (Evan Handler) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) is still on point Not on the show.

A release date for Season 2 of And Just Like That has yet to be announced. Check out the first look at Corbett’s return below.
