Justin Roiland fired: ‘Rick & Morty’ star faces domestic violence charges

Adult Swim has officially severed ties with Justin Roiland – the co-creator of Rick and Mortywho is also providing the voices of both characters – following domestic violence charges against him.
“Adult Swim has ended its relationship with Justin Roiland,” read a statement from Marie Moore, SVP of Communications for Adult Swim, Cartoon Network and Boomerang.
As NBC News previously reported, Roiland has been charged with one charge of assault and one charge of false imprisonment through threat, violence, fraud or deception – all related to an incident that allegedly happened in 2020 involving an unnamed woman. Roiland pleaded not guilty and was released, but is expected back in court on April 27.
Rick and Morty, which wrapped up its sixth season in December, received a whopping 70-episode order in 2018; The hit animated series is expected to continue on Adult Swim, with Roiland reportedly being recast.
In addition to Rick and MortyRoiland is the creator and star of the animated comedy Hulu Solar Oppositeswhich was previously renewed for seasons 4 and 5. He is also an EP and voice actor on Hulu koala manwhich launched on January 9th and is still awaiting information on the second season. TVLine reached out to Hulu for comment.
