Kanye West’s fandom burns to the ground in the wake of his Hitler praise

KanyeWest Fans were already used to their hero making bizarre creative choices and offensive comments in interviews, but it seems that outright anti-Semitism, praising Nazis and coming out as a Hitler fan are a step too far. The fandom has already disintegrated over his comments about Jews in recent months, but has collapsed since his interview with Alex Jones last week.

Various Kanye subreddits are realizing that the game is over and there is no way they can continue in their current form. One of the largest was r/WestSubEver, which had 119,000 members but is now shutting down “for the foreseeable future.” The title description of the subform has also been changed to a very critical past tense.

“Welcome to r/WestSubEver, formerly devoted to news, theories and discussion about disgraced artist and neo-Nazi Kanye West.”

NBC asked host CalmYe what’s going on:

“After the Infowars interview, we were disgusted with his behavior. We no longer wanted to give a platform to what he says.”

r/WestSubEver will not be deleted directly, but will now simply moderate updates on Kanye’s music closely, and potentially join other similar subreddits for focus on a different topic.

Similar drama occurred on r/Kanye, which initially declared itself a Taylor Swift subreddit and is now promoting itself as a Holocaust Remembrance subreddit to push back on its outright Holocaust denial, the board’s mod avayr44 revealed.

“For a lot of people, this Reddit is a way to find closure with like-minded people who grew up with Kanye and are disappointed in his recent behavior.”

Over on Twitter, the co-host of the Kanye podcast watch the throne Joined:

What’s next for Kanye? Theoretically, he could apologize and claim that he’s currently going through a mental health crisis, but that doesn’t give you a pass for belting out literal Nazi talking points and praising Hitler in front of a global audience. Far-right leeches are now keen to jump on the Ye bandwagon, but with its reputation shattered, its businesses in ruins and its trading partners fleeing like rats from a sinking ship, we see nothing good along the way.

According to the Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitic incidents hit an “all-time high” in 2021, and 2022 is on a similar path. These include assault, harassment and vandalism. For more information on the dangers of antisemitic rhetoric and what you can do about it, see the American Jewish Committee’s Call to Action Against Antisemitism in America.
