Kelly Ripa reveals why she and Mark Consuelos wouldn’t have eloped after splitting today
Actress and talk show host Kelly Ripa isn’t sure if she and husband Mark Consuelos would still have eloped if they relived that backstage moment Live with Regis and Kathie Lee while separated today.
Almost immediately before their escape, Ripa and Consuelos, who were together but broke up, were supposed to show up live. During a recent appearance on What’s happening live with Andy Cohen, a virtual viewer asked Ripa after the awkward barometer backstage with Consuelos. She said the timing really couldn’t have been more perfect.
Ripa compared what breaking up and being with Consuelos would have been like today to their performance in 1996. Ripa explained during the WWHL after show for exploring the moment in her book. But added: “But I keep saying that I draw a parallel to today. If we were together then and if we would have broken up then and if we had to do it Live with Regis and Kathie Lee then we wouldn’t be together,” she said.
“Because we would have been distracted with social media or our phones. Or read the news on our News app,” Ripa continued. “There were so many distractions that didn’t exist then that there are now that I can say, I don’t think we … We eloped the next day.”
Ripa added: “I mean, that’s how we were forced into a room together where we couldn’t do anything but look at each other. And I think it was that time together that he humbly asked for my forgiveness. And I really accepted his apology.”

They pretaped it, and one of the dreams of one of the moms was to meet Mark and I. We were her favorite characters on all my children.”

Ripa also recalled the sweet vibes and her role on the show that day. “She wanted to meet us, and I think we rolled out a new car or brought out a new pool table or something,” Ripa recalled of the fan attending the show. “She got a present from her children and we brought it to her. It’s all so connected.”
