Kelsea Ballerini shares the black dress she wore on the first Chase Stokes dates

Kelsea Ballerini brings it back to the beginning of her romance with her current boyfriend Chase Stokes.

“Have a nice weekend here’s a video I sent to my best friend before my first date with Chase,” Ballerini, 29, captioned it on Saturday, Aug. 19. tick tock Video of her cheering herself up in the mirror.

In the clip, Ballerini posed for a mirror selfie to show off her “look.” The country singer wore a black floral mini dress and matching ankle boots, “because we’re trying.” [a] cool girl.”

“He picks me up and we go to a sushi restaurant and I’ll call you tomorrow to get all the updates,” she added.

Ballerini documented this date in her new song How Do I Do This, which was released earlier this month. Her lyrics even specifically mention the “little black dress” she wore and “last looks in the mirror” before her boyfriend arrived.

“I’m afraid of looking stupid. I said I’m ready now, I have to prove it. I have a little black dress I want to wear,” Ballerini sang. “And you might lose it on the floor, that’s not mine / I think it’s probably time to keep it moving.”

Ballerini published “How Do I Do This” in the expanded edition of her Roll up the welcome mat EP titled: Roll up the welcome mat (forever).

“It’s about the nerves of venturing into a very unfamiliar world,” Ballerini said exclusively Us weekly Early August of the post-breakup song. “And since I hadn’t really gotten around to telling my story from my perspective of what had happened in my life, I felt like that had to come second. This is part two. I felt like I really wanted to talk about the breakup and let that live on in one piece. And then if I ever decide to do what we’re doing now – Roll up the welcome mat (forever) – then that would be the extension of the story, so to speak.”

Stokes, 30, also praised Roll up the welcome mat (forever) at its publication a throwback photo of Ballerini in the dark dress. “Little black dress: used 🥺she wrote via Instagram Story at the time, re-sharing his note.

Ballerini filed for divorce Morgan Evans in August 2022 after four years of marriage and the separation was finalized the following November. Less than a month later, she contacted him Outer Banks Star.

“I slipped into his DMs,” Ballerini said during a February appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “He shoots [Outer Banks] in Charleston and my manager lives there. He said, ‘You know who’s really cute when you’re up for that?’ Chase.’ I thought, ‘You’re so right about that.’”

She continued at the time, “His alias is ‘Hichasestokes’ and I just said ‘Hi Chase Stokes.’ We’re manifesting baby!”

The lyrics to How Do I Do This also mention Ballerini’s manager who was responsible for the repair. “They say whoever comes out with the old, comes in with the new / And I haven’t had a date since I was 22,” she sang in the first verse. “My boyfriend has a boyfriend, and they say they’re my type / And then they text me once, and then they text me twice / Say, ‘Do you have Saturday off?’ I know a spot.'”

The track ended with Ballerini “freaking out” because it was “seven sharp” — right when her date was due to arrive.
