Kingdom Day Parade: Brooklyn’s Blue Angels Drumline prepare for their West Coast debut

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The 38th annual Kingdom Day Parade honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place in Los Angeles on Monday.

A drumline group from New York is excited about the opportunity to fly here and perform – many of them seeing the West Coast for the first time.

The youth members of the Brooklyn residents Blue Angels Drumline and Blue Royalty Dance Team practiced hard for their big moment.

But they’re also excited about the opportunity to visit Los Angeles — maybe meet some celebrities and try some In-N-Out burgers and Roscoe’s chicken and waffles.

“I heard there are palm trees there,” said drumline member Nadine Calixte. “Want to see the Hollywood sign, stuff like that. The stars.”

The group has also raised funds to fund the coast-to-coast trip. Parade organizers have provided $2,000 to fund transportation in Los Angeles.

The group is still looking for donations and accepting payments through Venmo, Cashapp and other platforms. To contact them go to Blue Angels Drumline website here.

The parade on Martin Luther King and Crenshaw Boulevards is the largest and longest-running Kingdom Day celebration. Every year thousands of people line the parade route to see marching bands, colorful floats, dramatic drums, dancers and some surprises too.

The Kingdom Day Parade will be streamed live on ABC7 and our streaming platforms on Monday 16 January from 11am to 1pm
