Lisa Marie Presley Tributes: Baz Luhrmann, Tom Hanks and more

Rita Wilson also remembered the late singer-songwriter and only son of Elvis Presley.

The “Elvis” crew and more pay tribute to the late singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley.

Presley died on January 12 after suffering cardiac arrest. Elvis Presley’s only child was 54 years old. Prsley and her mother Priscilla recently attended the Golden Globes on assignment for the musical biopic “Elvis,” which garnered lead actor Austin Butler for best actor. Recalling Presley on Friday, Elvis director Baz Luhrmann wrote on Instagram, “Over the past year the entire Elvis film family and I have felt the privilege of Lisa Marie’s kind embrace. Her sudden, shocking loss has shaken people around the world. I know her fans everywhere join me in sharing her prayers of love and support with her mother Priscilla and her beautiful daughters Riley, Finley and Harper. Lisa Marie, we will miss your warmth, your smile, your love.”

Tom Hanks, who plays Elvis’ manager “Colonel” Tom Parker in the film, wrote that he and his wife Rita Wilson were “heartbroken, absolutely heartbroken” at the news of Presley’s death.

Wilson added: “Our hearts are broken at the sudden and shocking death of Lisa Marie Presley tonight. Tom and I had spent some family time during the promotional tour for the ‘Elvis’ movie. Lisa Marie was so honest and direct, vulnerable, full of anticipation for the film. She spoke so eloquently about her father and what the film meant to her that it was a celebration of her father.”

Presley’s ex-husband Nicolas Cage told The Hollywood Reporter her sudden death was a “devastating” shock. “Lisa had the biggest laugh of anyone I’ve ever met,” Cage wrote. “She lit up every room and I’m heartbroken. I find some comfort in believing that she is reunited with her son Benjamin.”

Presley’s son Benjamin Keough died by suicide in 2020. Presley’s other three children, actress Riley Keough and 14-year-old twin daughters Finley and Harper Lockwood, have yet to make public statements about their deaths.

Presley’s frequent collaborator, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan, tweeted, “There’s heartbreak and then there’s grief. That would be suffering and on more levels than I can count. Please send your prayers for her family and children at this difficult time. I really can’t find the words to express how sad this really is. RIP Lisa Marie Presley.”
