Lizzo has named who she wants in a Lady Marmalade remake

“Lady Marmalade” was a hit when it hit the airwaves in 2001. The song featured some of the greatest singers of the time. When Grammy-winner Lizzo reflected on the song and was asked who she would cast for her own dream remake of the track, some were surprised by her response.
“Lady Marmalade” was a hit
“Lady Marmalade” reached number 1 in the US charts for the first time billboard Hot 100 chart in 1974. The song was recorded by the group Labelle, led by singer Patti LaBelle.
In 2001, four hit artists came together to record a remake of the song for Baz Luhrmann Moulin Rouge! Movie. Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Mýa and Lil’ Kim each contributed parts to the song that remain iconic to this day. The remake eventually became an even bigger hit on the charts than Labelle’s version, staying at #1 on the Hot 100 for five weeks.

Lizzo wants Ariana Grande and SZA in her Lady Marmalade remake
Many artists have been asked over the years who they would like in their own version of Lady Marmalade.
In a 2022 interview with ellsaid Lizzo who she wanted in her own version if given the chance.
“I would say I as Missy, I would say SZA as Mýa, Doja as Lil’ Kim, and that’s Ariana Grande as Christina Aguilera’s role. And we would be fierce,” she said.
Lizzo responded to criticism of her choices.
After she gave her answer, some online called Lizzo about her choice and her omission of P!nk from the lineup.
“There’s a thing going around right now and it’s like, ‘Lizzo says she wants to remake ‘Lady Marmalade.'” And it lists some other artists. And I just want to get one thing straight: That was a fun interview question I was asked ell Magazine. It wasn’t, ‘Hey guys, I have this great idea: I want to remake Lady Marmalade.’ No! It didn’t go down like that.”
“It felt like they were just asking me some normal, interview questions – ‘What motivated you to do something? Special?'” She continued. “And he said, ‘Here’s a funny one: If you had to remake ‘Lady Marmalade’ in 2022, what would it be?'”
“Mind you, it was on the spot, so I was like, ‘Um, I’m going to be Missy Elliott, Mya from SZA, Lil’ Kim from Doja.’ I was just naming people I’ve worked with and toured with and I thought it would be cool and fun. That doesn’t mean they represent that person from back then, it just means it sounds like it’s going to be a fun day. And then I was nervous enough to reply that they skipped the p!nk part.”

Lizzo admires P!nk as an artist
Lizzo continued to share her appreciation for P!nk and her long career on social media.
“Let me just say something,” she said. “I love pink. I think P!nk is an incredible singer. I grew up with P!nk. She’s so damn cool. B**** I’ll be P!nk then because Missy produced it and was in the video but she didn’t perform; I’m thinking about ‘Ladies’ Night’.”
“So, b****, I’m gonna be P!nk! That would be fun!” she added. “But other than that, it doesn’t happen. I will not do it. That’s not one of my aspirations. I feel like there have been a lot of remakes in pop culture and I feel like some things are just amazing, you can’t beat the original. And I feel like Lady Marmalade was one of those moments. You can’t beat the original. It was amazing.”
“There’s no world in which I would ever want to look like I’ve skipped or disrespected P!nk,” she concluded. “I love pink to create a lot for the internet the s***.”
