Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez tests positive for COVID-19 after experiencing mild symptoms following a recent trip

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Archbishop of Los Angeles Jose Gomez has tested positive for COVID-19.

Gomez experienced mild symptoms after a recent trip, according to a statement from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on Friday.

The 70-year-old is fully vaccinated and has received his booster shot, according to officials.

The archdiocese said he is currently in domestic isolation.

“I’m grateful to have mild symptoms and look forward to returning to personal service soon,” Gomez said. “I continue to pray for all who are suffering from this virus. Let us all continue to pray for those who may be seriously ill to find healing in the grace of our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady.”

That comes as cases continue to rise in LA County, with 6,200 new infections and nine deaths reported Thursday.

“None of us want to see cases continue to rise,” said LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer. “None of us want our health care system to be stressed or for more people to get seriously ill.”
