In spite of Captain Marvel It’s conveniently proving to be the MCU’s most controversial and hotly debated feature — no small feat for a series that spans no fewer than 30 films — and still stands as one of the franchise’s highest-grossing origin stories, having over Grossed $1.1 billion at the box office.

Fans hope lightning strikes twice, because if Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 failing to hit the billion-dollar mark, the spandex-clad saga will have failed to hit 10 figures in five consecutive installments since Stage One, a streak conveniently ended at the hands of The Avengers.

Just when you thought about the endless debate about the merits Thor: Love and Thunder ended, Taika Waititi’s wildly polarizing rampage through the cosmos was accused of nothing less than war crimes. Overdone, sure, but it still sums up the sentiment many fans have towards Chris Hemsworth’s fourth solo adventure.

Ringing in the new year will clearly not mean a clean slate love and thunderthen, with the mind-blowing intergalactic escapade continuing to ride the hate train through 2023, which is par for the course as it quickly became one of the most hotly contested films of 2022.

2023, which has yet to begin, is already being dubbed the MCU’s worst year ever

Fans of a well-loved and inexorably successful franchise have a conflicting quality that predicts nothing but doom and gloom, but calling 2023 the worst year in MCU history before it even got started sounds incredibly harsh. Then again, we could all look back in 365 days and hail the oracle, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it unfolds.

The DCU’s first decade was marked by constant reshuffles at almost every level, from the boardroom to the casting department to the writers’ room and the director’s chair, something James Gunn aims to put an end to as he ushers in a brand new era of interconnectivity and synergy.

That makes it suitably ironic that the filmmaker was forced to debunk gossip about possible glitches Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from Marvel Studios, which he really didn’t have to do as it became clear that the mutual respect he and Kevin Feige have for each other runs deep.
