Man arrested after passing car shooting in North Carolina
MADISON COUNTY, NC (WSPA) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said a man was arrested after he shot and killed someone walking down a sidewalk Saturday morning.
According to Sheriff Buddy Harwood, around 1 a.m. officers responded to the City of Hot Springs regarding the incident
Upon arrival, officers found a victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was walking down the sidewalk in town when a car slowed, shot the victim, and then sped away.
Investigators said they were able to identify the suspect as Wilburn Larry Barker. Officers located Barker Saturday afternoon while driving through Hot Springs. When police officers tried to stop Barker, he fled in his vehicle.
Officers quickly ended the pursuit and arrested Barker without further incident. Investigators found the gun used in the shooting hidden in a wood-burning stove.
Barker was accused of:
- Attack with a deadly weapon that causes serious injuries
- possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- flee to avoid arrest
