Man arrested for hitting store clerk in Chinatown caught on film

CHINATOWN, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A man accused of attacking a store clerk during a robbery in Chinatown, a disturbing incident captured on surveillance video, has been arrested.

The robbery occurred on September 14 at Angie’s Boutique on N Broadway. Surveillance video shows a man pushing the woman to the ground while reaching over the counter. The employee attempted to stop the suspect from stealing two pieces of art, which led to a brief physical altercation in which she was punched in the face.

Los Angeles police announced Friday that Thornton Courtland was arrested in connection with the Hawthorne robbery. Police say they are also investigating other robberies related to the 31-year-old.

He is being held on $80,000 bail.

The beaten saleswoman has now recovered from her injuries.
