Mark Bennett: Edinburgh and Scotland center sign new deal with Capital Club

Bennett, 29, has enjoyed a stellar season, scoring eight goals in 15 games and winning a recall for Scotland after a three-and-a-half year absence.
He thrived under new coach Mike Blair and enjoyed a freedom of attack rarely seen under Blair’s predecessor, Richard Cockerill.
Bennett joins international colleagues Pierre Schoeman, Luke Crosbie, Damien Hoyland and Grant Gilchrist to extend tenure with Edinburgh.
Blair said: “I absolutely loved working with Mark this season. He really proved himself as a leader and we were very impressed with the way he behaved with our younger players as well.
“We all know Mark is a threat with the ball and that has been more evident than ever this season. His work speed in the park is exceptional and he also plays with a smile on his face which is really important.

“We have a lot of young Scottish players developing into the team so having smart, experienced lads like Mark is absolutely crucial to the way we play. He will play a big role in both the 1872 cup decider and the URC play-offs.”
Bennett said: “I’m delighted to stay with Edinburgh Rugby. It’s a great place, we’re playing brilliant rugby and building a great home at DAM Health Stadium. I don’t want to be anywhere else.”
Edinburgh meet Glasgow Warriors in the second leg of the 1872 Cup at BT Murrayfield on Saturday.
