Marvel fans’ jaws drop as Kevin Bacon casually drops DC references in MCU

This article contains spoilers for The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special

The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special is finally here to really ring in the holiday season, delivering a silly and heartwarming story about the true meaning of Christmas. The heart of the story is Drax and Mantis, who make an unscheduled trip to Earth to get the perfect gift for Peter Quill. He’s spent the last few films singing the praises of his hero Kevin Bacon, so what would please him more than to have the famous actor as his new toy?

Predictably, Peter isn’t happy about his buddies kidnapping Bacon, and once Mantis’ mind control wears off, he’s afraid he’ll suddenly be on an alien world surrounded by talking raccoons (sorry Rocket) and plant people. Bacon clearly has a lot of fun playing himself, but especially when he commits the blasphemous act of mixing DC into the MCU.

This isn’t the first time the MCU has referenced the respected competition eternal dropped some previous DC nods. However, Bacon goes as far as playing the Batman voice in the MCU and has fans going nuts:

Nothing good can come from Batman being in the MCU!

Then again, DC and Marvel crossed paths a couple of times in the comics, so…

eternal and Black Panther (sort of) also mentioned the Dark Knight:

Let’s hope the DCU returns the compliment at some point:

If Batman really is a comic in the MCU, then maybe even some of the darker heroes take inspiration from him. Real-life corporate rivalry means we won’t be getting more than those funny nods for the foreseeable future, but with the Multiverse popping the cork on crossovers that we never thought would happen, maybe someday in the distant future will finally breaking glass on a DC vs Marvel Movie.

Hell, why not bring the crazy Amalgam universe to the big screen and bring us some Dark Claw (Wolverine x Batman) action?
