Marvel’s lineup for 2023 suggests that Phase 5 will ruin the one thing Phase 4 got right

We all know that phase 4 wasn’t the best era of the MCU, from the botched execution of divisive projects like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder to its shockingly lackluster box office reception. And yet there is still much optimism in the fandom that the incoming Phase Five can put the ship back in order Wonder Hopefully studios will learn the right lessons from the missteps of the last few years.

Well, phase five has yet to officially begin, but it already looks like the next wave of the MCU won’t learn from what phase four actually got right. Let’s recall Marvel’s 2023 movie release schedule. First, February 17 delivers Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniaIn front Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 follows on May 5th. The summer blockbuster slot will then be occupied until July 28th The wonders. And that is our lot.

This lineup is in sharp contrast to the studio’s 2021 and 2022 releases, which have been saving their perhaps most anticipated new film of the year until the last few months. Namely Sony co-production Spider-Man: No Way Home (Dec. ’21) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Nov ’22). In either case, unsurprisingly, these films proved to be Marvel’s biggest hits of their respective calendar years, ensuring the MCU exited on a high note each time.

OK, so there’s no movie coming out in the second half of 2023, but what about all the TV series that have yet to come? Unfortunately, there could be the same story there as well, since both echo and Agatha: Circle of Chaos They are rumored to have been hit with delays that would push them from their “late 2023” slots to early 2024. This is not yet confirmed with echo specifically perhaps sticking to its release window, but there’s a real chance we’ll have a serious Marvel drought after the summer.

Honestly, this is something that could even continue into 2024 given September blade is the last film to come out next year. Phase 5 could improve on some of Phase 4’s weaknesses, but unfortunately it already drops the ball in an important way that could really spoil fans’ enjoyment of the Multiverse saga as a whole.
