Maverick’ Star sought Tom Cruise’s blessing to direct another fighter pilot film

When it comes to the movie ladder of 2022, very little separates the rungs of the ubiquitous superhero films, the startlingly triumphant horror genre, the dark horses of the criminal investigation department, and, interestingly enough, films related to military aviation.

In fact, out of every movie cinemas and streaming services are expected to launch this year, Top Gun: Maverick was perhaps the most undisputed success story; With worldwide sales of almost $1.5 billion, Tom Cruise’s passion project became the most lucrative film of his career.

But he had no intention of doing so loner stealing any degree of thunder from another aviation film that happens to be bowing this year; In fact, he was only too happy to make sure it had the tools it needed to succeed.

The tool in question was Glen Powell, who portrayed Hangman loner and is also set to play the role of naval officer Tom Hudner dedicationwhere he will star alongside Jonathan Majors to tell the true story of two of America’s most famous fighter pilots of the Korean War era.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Powell revealed that he had some concerns about the logistics behind filming two different aviation films; Worries Tom Cruise quickly allayed by assuring Powell he didn’t have to choose between the two projects.

I said, “Hey, Tom, I already have a film on naval aviation that’s very close to my heart.” And Tom said, “There’s room for two. You can do Top Gun, you can do Devotion. You don’t have to choose.”

dedication will hit theaters on November 23.
