Michigan State Football Player Charged With Assaulting Rival Team Members

Seven members of the Michigan State football team face criminal charges in the Oct. 29 assault on two University of Michigan players, the Washtenaw County Attorney’s Office said in a statement Wednesday.

The physical incident last month happened in Michigan Stadium tunnel after the conclusion of a game between the two teams.

The bureau-designated players were Khary Crump (an assault case); Itayvion Brown (one count of aggravated assault); Angelo Grose (one count of aggravated assault); Justin White (a case of grievous bodily harm); Brandon Wright (a case of grievous bodily harm); Zion Young (one count of aggravated assault); and Jacoby Windmon (a count of attack and battery).

Video of the October attack on Michigan defense attorneys Gemon Green and Ja’Den McBurrows went viral and garnered national media attention.

The Michigan Wolverines had defeated the Michigan State Spartans 29-7 before the attack.

“At the University of Michigan, we appreciate the thoughtful, deliberate approach of the Washtenaw County Attorney’s Office to this unfortunate incident,” Michigan President Santa J. Ono said in a statement, according to the Associated Press.

“We would also like to express our concerns to all players involved, particularly those who have been injured. The University of Michigan will continue to cooperate fully with further reviews of this matter,” added Ono.
