Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning 2 is delayed by a year and loses its title

Not only will the subtitle change, Mission: Impossible 8’s release date will also be postponed. The film – previously known as Dead Reckoning Part 2 – has been pushed back almost a full year to May 23, 2025.

The Hollywood Reporter adds that a new title for Mission: Impossible 8 is also on the way in the future. Dead Reckoning 2 was previously scheduled to premiere on June 28, 2024. However, production of the Tom Cruise vehicle was paused to promote Dead Reckoning throughout the summer. Then there was the Hollywood actors’ strike in July, which still hasn’t ended. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ethan Hunt’s next adventure probably won’t be the only big blockbuster coming out of 2024 either.

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning had a record-breaking start at the global box office before fading. The action film ended up grossing around $567.5 million, but was hurt by Oppenheimer overtaking IMAX screens shortly after its release. Dead Reckoning also received fairly positive reviews upon release, similar to Rogue Nation and Fallout.

“Mission: Impossible 8” will again star Cruise, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Esai Morales and Ving Rhames. Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham will also appear in the sequel.
