Mitch McConnell’s Midterms Warning Sparks Attack From Sean Hannity

Fox News host Sean Hannity has attacked Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, saying he should be replaced as leader after the Republican appeared to warn that the GOP may not retake the Senate in November’s midterm election .

Hannity has criticized McConnell for his comments on “candidate quality” in key Senate races, where the Kentucky Republican appeared to quash expectations that his party could win the chamber.

“Democrats portray Republican Senate candidates running in upcoming elections and midterms as cruel and outspoken,” Hannity said Friday. “Well, apparently Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is content to let them dry and fend for themselves. Listen to these comments – very encouraging.”

Hannity played up McConnell’s comments, in which he had said: “I think the House of Representatives is probably more likely to topple than the Senate. Senate races are just different—they’re national. The quality of the candidates has a lot to do with the result.”

The Fox News anchor responded to McConnell’s remarks by calling Lt. gov. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania compared Sen. Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent, and said he was to Sanders’ left.

Fetterman is the Democratic Senate candidate, succeeding Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz, leading Oz by more than 10 points according to poll tracker FiveThirtyEight. Their analysis also found that Democrats are slightly favored to win the Senate, while Republicans continue to be favored to win the House of Representatives.

“Yet you don’t hear Chuckie Schumer complaining about the quality of the candidates in Pennsylvania,” Hannity said, referring to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

“How about you go out there, Mitch, and fight for your team? What’s your agenda, Mitch, or would you rather just watch helplessly as the Democrats lie to your face and pass another $500 billion green energy boondoggle next year?” said the Fox News host.

“Or maybe Mitch McConnell hates Donald Trump so much that he would probably prefer to see Trump-backed candidates lose because he thinks it could harm Donald Trump?” said Hannity.

“His time as a leader must come to an end,” he added.

Oz was competitively endorsed by Trump along with other Republican candidates for the Senate.

news week has reached out to McConnell’s office for comment.

Trump and McConnell have been at odds since the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. The former president called for McConnell to be replaced as GOP Senate leader, repeatedly calling him an “old crow.”

In February, Trump said McConnell was “so against what Republicans are about” after the senator said he was against the Republican National Committee censuring Reps Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, both of whom were on the March 6 committee. sitting january

McConnell has largely shrugged off criticism from the former president, even cracking jokes about the nickname “old crow,” but if Republicans fail to retake the Senate, questions about McConnell’s leadership could resurface.
