Modern Warfare 2 could see the series return to Steam

Modern warfare 2 could be the first call of Duty Titles will be available on Steam in five years as new artwork appears on the client.

The last game in the series to be available on Steam was Call of Duty: World War II, which was published by Sledgehammer Games in 2017. Since then, PC gamers have been forced to download the Battle Net Launcher to buy and play newer titles.

As call of Duty Games are among the most profitable titles year after year, Activision made the decision to sell them through their own Battle Net client so as not to lose profits to Valve. This is precisely why the decision to return to Steam may have been made Modern warfare 2 later this year is unknown, but it certainly looks like a possibility.

Modern Warfare 2 File Leak Suggests Call of Duty Will Return to Steam

The artwork was spotted by a user on Reddit (via CharlieIntel) that appears at the bottom of a DLC page for call of Duty. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you’ll see a section titled “Explore The Full Franchise” where the banner features the recently revealed artwork for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

Confirmed to be a sequel to the 2019 reboot, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, Modern warfare 2 will be released on Friday October 28, 2022 and continues the story of Task Force 141. Activision is yet to confirm which platforms the next installment in the series will be released on as rumors have it that it will be the last call of Duty Game to be released on previous generation consoles.

Though fans are dying for the franchise to return to Steam, many have pointed out that it may not be all it’s meant to be. Initially, when you click the Explore More link, it only takes you to the Steam storefront, which in itself seems odd. Second, should the game actually be made available on Steam, players may still need to have Battle Net installed on their PC in order to run Modern warfare 2even if purchased through Valve’s client.

This is often the case with Ubisoft and EA games released on Steam as users require Origin and Ubisoft Connect to launch and play the games. We therefore advise you to take this news with a pinch of salt for now until it is made official by Activision itself.
