Nancy Pelosi’s husband’s attorney wants to clarify the truth about DUI

An attorney for Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said reports describing his client’s arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence contained false information about the timing of events and an alleged prior driving offense .

The unnamed attorney issued the expression Speaking to Fox News Monday night, Paul Pelosi was reportedly arrested in Napa County, California. While the statement questioned previously reported details about Paul Pelosis’ arrest, it did not appear to dispute the arrest or the charges.

Several news outlets, including Fox News, reported Sunday that Paul Pelosi was arrested at 11:44 p.m. Saturday for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher.

TMZ, which published the story, previously reported that authorities received a call at 10:26 p.m. Saturday about a two-car accident in the Napa area. According to media reports, Paul Pelosi was driving a 2021 Porsche that was hit by a jeep.

Nobody was injured in the crash. Paul Pelosi, 82, was charged with the misdemeanor charge of drunk driving in the Napa County Jail.

“Mr. Pelosi was fully cooperative with California Highway Patrol officers, who arrived a few minutes later,” the statement said. “A previous driving offense wrongly attributed to Mr. Pelosi is untrue and likely refers to another person with the same name.”

That portion of the attorney’s testimony appeared to challenge previous NBC Bay Area coverage that court filings show Paul Pelosi was arrested on a similar charge four years ago.

Paul Pelosi attended a dinner party at a friends house near Oakville, a Napa County community, left the house at 10:15 p.m. and drove home alone nearby, the attorney said in the statement.

“The incident occurred minutes later,” the statement said, saying the timing of the events was misreported. However, it did not reference specific reports.

After stopping at an intersection on Highway 29, Paul Pelosi’s car was reportedly hit on the rear fender by a southbound jeep.

According to Napa County records, Paul Pelosi was booked at 4:13 a.m. Sunday. He was reportedly released on $5,000 bail nearly three hours later.

It’s not clear if police determined Paul Pelosi was responsible for the crash. The number listed by Fran Clader, communications director for the California Highway Patrol, was not working Monday night.

Nancy Pelosi, who delivered the commencement address for Brown University on Sunday, has previously declined to comment on the matter, calling it personal.

The two have been married since 1963. Paul Pelosi is the owner of Financial Leasing Services, a Northern California-based real estate and venture capital investment and advisory firm.
