The first Salvadoran American in space flies to the International Space Station.

dr Frank Rubio will launch from Kazakhstan on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft on Wednesday.

If all goes according to plan, it will take six hours to get to the space station.

Rubio will be on a six month mission, orbit the earth.

Rubio was born in Los Angeles but grew up primarily in Florida.

He is a doctor and a former army helicopter pilot.

Salvadorans are the second largest Latino group in California. Its historic launch comes as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
