Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone Flipping Houses – IndieWire

Knock, knock: Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder want to freak out.

Fielder co-created The Curse with reality TV producer Benny Safdie, who follows an unhinged married couple (Stone and Fielder) as they beautify a New Mexico neighborhood that might be haunted, maybe But also not.

Produced by A24, the Showtime series marks Safdie’s first scripted television foray. According to the official synopsis, Asher (Fielder) and Whitney (Stone) Siegel are married entrepreneurs whose latest plan is to flip houses and convert them into eco-friendly homes for the struggling residents of Española, New Mexico – all for a reality on HGTV. Style The show is overseen by a fawning producer (Safdie) with his own demons. From this premise, which deftly touches on the inescapable American questions of race, class, and capital, Fielder and Safdie branch out into an increasingly tangled web of ethical and moral gray areas, deftly balancing the delicate and the merciless.

Barkhad Abdi, Corbin Bernsen and Constance Shulman guest star.

The 10-episode series is co-produced by Showtime and A24, with Fielder and Safdie executive producing alongside brother Josh Safdie for Safdie’s Elara Pictures banner. Stone also executive produces through her Fruit Tree banner alongside Dave McCary and Ali Herting.

Fielder and Safdie co-created and wrote the series, with Fielder directing alongside David and Nathan Zellner. The first three episodes of the series will premiere at the 2023 New York Film Festival as part of the Spotlight program. Episodes 4 through 10 will be shown at Film at Lincoln Center during the show’s run beginning November 12th. Oscar-nominated actress Stone also appears in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Golden Lion winner “Poor Things” at NYFF. The actress is working again with the author of “The Favorite” for the upcoming film “AND” and the short film “Bleat,” which premiered in 2022 and also has a special screening at the NYFF.

“The Curse” premieres November 10th on streaming and on-demand for all Showtime and Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers before making its on-air debut on November 12th on Showtime. Check out the teaser below.
