NCIS opened season 20 on Monday night with Parker and his mysterious ex still in hiding while McGee & co. worked to identify “The Raven” and believed the adversary had a vendetta against their team.
The NCIS team had actually done it two Enemies to contend with as FBI Honcho Sweeny is on the hunt himself – Parker, who is wanted for the murder of his former partner. After the team baited Sweeny with a false tip on Parker’s whereabouts, Vance told Parker to “hurry up” with his and Vivian’s investigation into the source of the offshore account that accused Alden.
Hiding in a motel, Vivian worked on her laptop to track down the offshore account, but came up empty-handed. When she then received a secret message from someone (to “stop hesitating” and drop Parker off at a nearby diner the next morning), Parker eavesdropped from the bathroom as his ex replied to the message. Afterwards, Parker quietly turned to Kasie to trace Vivian’s burner phone while the rest of the team switched to guess who wasn’t the raven isbut, “Who would want Parker?”
It turns out that several convicts Parker arrested have appealed after their arresting agent appears to be dirty himself. McGee and Knight go to prison to track down a hacker named Maxwell, who denies harboring any ill will towards Parker but also has a reaction to the name “The Raven”. Maxwell says The Raven (or Voronin Russian) is an oligarch who loves creating chaos/ stampede to the point that Maxwell hated working for him.
Parker, meanwhile, accuses Vivian of conspiring against him when she appears to be taking him to a certain diner to be brought in by Sweeny; Instead, Fornell appears, summoned by Vivian to help her case. Angered by her ex’s lack of trust, Vivian explains that she would have Got messages from Sweeny but she held him back. Fornell then leads her to a friend of his (hey, LA law‘s Susan Ruttan!) who can determine that the offshore account was created by someone in Moscow.
Parker, posing as a shrink, meets with McGee to speak personally with the incarcerated Maxwell. Afterwards, they decide to use Maxwell as “live bait” for The Raven, very conspicuously coordinating with the rest of the team (NCIS: Hawaii visitors included) to move the hacker to a safe house. However, Sweeny intercepts her caravan first, determined to bring Parker in, but then the real villains show up in unmarked compartments and with heavy weapons. A shootout ensues on the street, with NCIS taking down several idiots, but Maxwell is grabbed anyway and thrown away – but not before Parker sees the hacker smile at him and reveal that he was involved in his own kidnapping.
Parker then deduces that Maxwell is the raven himself and has spent the last few years coordinating his “escape”. His next stop is apparently (conveniently!) Hawaii, so Parker – with Vivian hospitalized with a gunshot wound – sends Torres and Knight to the Aloha State to continue the hunt in Part 2 Hawaii half of the season opening crossover event….
