Netflix’s ambitious new adventure hits the top 10 in 78 countries

Much of Netflix’s original content can be generously described as unforgettable, but the platform’s semi-annual forays into interactive storytelling have at least offered plenty of ambition kaleidoscope the latest project where subscribers can decide how the story ends.

This is a big step up from people like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs ReverendBear Grylls You vs. Wild and others, the blockbuster-sized series features refined production values, Ridley Scott as executive producer, and a cast that includes Giancarlo Esposito, Rufus Sewell, Paz Vega, Jai Courtney, Tati Gabrielle and more.

The anthology’s eight episodes span a quarter of a century and can be played in any order, which in theory offers great re-watchability as you never have to see things unfold the same way twice. It centers on a team of thieves attempting to break into an impossible vault in order to secure the heist of a lifetime and sounds like a fun selection of adventure entertainment.

Was it still a success? Well, a 20 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating would say no, but a 75 percent user rating disagrees. The proof is in the viewership numbers, to be fair, and on that front kaleidoscope flew out of the traps.

According to FlixPatrol, the fascinating if flawed experiment has cracked the top 10 in 78 countries and reached number one in the United States, so the signs are encouraging that people are willing to give it a try. On the other hand, we’ll have to wait and see if the algorithm thinks it’s successful enough to tinker with the formula more in the future.
