Virtually every Netflix original that boasts plenty of stylish action and CGI-driven spectacle is destined to make a splash on the platform’s viewership charts, so it’s not exactly a shock to discover that it’s Yeon Sang-ho BOY immediately became the most watched film on the platform.

According to FlixPatrol, it took the South Korean sci-fi blockbuster just 24 hours to reach the top of the streaming service’s global rankings after debuting in the top 10 in 84 countries. What’s more, the apocalyptic extravaganza wasted no time in capturing the number one spot in 31 of those nations, and that number is sure to grow even further by the end of today.

Fans of international cinema were excited BOYsince it marks the first feature of Train to Busan Writer and director Sang-Ho since he helmed peninsula, the worthy standalone sequel to the modern horror classic. In the meantime, however, the filmmaker delved into supernatural territory with acclaimed Netflix series infernalwhich has a second season on the way.

Combining the highly-anticipated new project of one of the industry’s top talents — which also happened to be a big-budget sci-fi story — would never bring Netflix anything but success, even if ratings across the country were rather solid than spectacular were plank.

BOY takes place in the 22nd century on an Earth devastated by climate change, but turning the tide of all-out war could potentially depend on a researcher cloning her mother’s brain to turn the tide. Don’t ask why, just ride along and be carried away by the ambition displayed everywhere.
