One dead after domestic unrest in Round Rock on Sunday morning

As officers began to leave, they reported a gunshot from inside the house.

ROUND ROCK, Texas—The Round Rock Police Department (RRPD) responded to a domestic riot that left one person dead early Sunday morning.

At 12:15 am on November 20, the RRPD received a call regarding a domestic disturbance at a home on the 3000 block of Bradford Park Drive. The 911 caller said the incident was physical and that there was a 1-year-old baby in the home.

When officers later arrived at the scene, the woman and baby inside the home were able to escape safely. According to reports, officers began exiting the home after determining the disturbance was a Class C misdemeanor and there were no other victims on the premises. As officers began to leave, they reported a gunshot from inside the house.

RRPD began returning to the house after hearing the shot, and the man who fired from the house began exiting the back porch. Once on the porch, the man aimed his gun and fired one shot, after which an RRPD officer fired a single shot and the man fell to the ground.

The 65-year-old man was reportedly pronounced dead.

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved in this incident. Any loss of life is tragic,” said Assistant Chief Justin Carmichael.

The RRPD sergeant fired his gun after the shooting and is being placed on administrative leave as part of department policy. The Texas Rangers and the Williamson County District Attorney are assisting the RRPD in investigating the incident.
