The list of divided-opinion horror films is so long it’s practically endless, but few have proven as contradictory on multiple levels in recent times as director Jessica M. Thompson’s The invitation.

That number one opening, however, was the worst in well over a year, and it came in an all-around terrible setting for cinemas.

A score of 25 percent on Rotten Tomatoes indicates a critical hit, but a user average of 60 percent with well over 1000 votes points to a film that fans of vampire tales and reinventions of classic fables will love.
