One person died in a hang-gliding accident on Memorial Day in California

A man was killed and a woman critically injured in a Memorial Day hang-glider crash.

The accident happened around 12 noon Monday in the hills of Ed R. Levin County Park in Milpitas, California.

A Cal Fire helicopter and Stanford Lifelight medical air support rushed to the crash site and the woman was flown to the hospital, a spokesman for the Milpitas Fire Department told local news station NBC Bay City.

The man died at the scene, confirmed Santa Clara Sheriff’s Office spokesman Russell Davis.

Fire and police officers were still working at the crash site hours later and worked well into the evening. They were still at the scene at 8:30 p.m. investigating the accident and trying to figure out what happened.

Located at 3100 Calaveras Road, the park features hang gliding and paragliding areas.
