Pedestrian fatally struck on 101 Freeway in Hollywood; Self-service lanes closed

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A pedestrian was struck and killed on the 101 Freeway in Hollywood Friday morning, prompting the closure of all southbound lanes at the scene, authorities said.

According to a California Highway Patrol incident log, a SigAlert was issued after the collision was reported just before 6 a.m. near Vermont Avenue.

The identity of the victim and the cause of the crash were not immediately known. It was unclear whether the driver remained at the scene of the accident.

All southbound traffic was detoured at Vermont Avenue as authorities conducted an investigation. Video from AIR7 HD showed CHP investigators using flashlights to search the lanes of traffic at dawn for evidence.

The southbound side of the highway was clogged for miles as the morning commute began.

There was no indication as to when the lanes would reopen.
