PHILADELPHIA– Three SWAT officers serving a warrant were injured and one suspect killed in a shooting in North Philadelphia.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on the 800 block of 10th Street near Brown Street.
Officers were serving an arrest warrant for a suspect wanted for manslaughter and other violent crimes.
According to the police, the 19-year-old suspect tried to leave the house. He shot the officers who were in the backyard and the officers fired back.
One officer was shot in the hip, another in the leg and a third in the chest.
Officers were taken to Jefferson University Hospital. They are listed in stable condition.
The murder suspect was also shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In a police radio transcript obtained by 6abc Action News, one of the injured officers called after being shot.
“We shot two officers. We’re on our way to Jefferson Hospital…let them know I’m shot in the hip. My partner has a shot in the leg,” the officer said.
Chopper 6’s video showed police officers taking children out of the house.
Moments later, officers took away two people in handcuffs, including an adult man.
Several officers arrived at Jefferson Hospital to check on the wounded SWAT members.
The suspect was wanted for a murder in August, police said.
Although a barricade situation was reported during the incident, police said there was never a barricade when the suspect attempted to flee the home.
