[PHOTOS] Schmigadoon! Season Two Release Date – Dove Cameron in Chicago

Apple TV+ announced Wednesday that the music satire will return with two episodes on Friday, April 7. The remaining four episodes will be released weekly through May 5th.

While season 1 parodied musicals from the 1940s, season 2 pays homage to a very different era of showtunes. The official logline reveals: “After finding true love in the town of Schmigadoon, Season 2 will see Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) set in Schmicago, the world of ’60s and ’70s musicals ‘ – hence the ‘All That Jazz’ sendup.

Key, Strong and Cameron are joined by new series regulars Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) and Patrick Page (The Gilded Age), while other returnees include Oscar-winning actress Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, and Jaime Camil (who previously played Billy Flynn on Broadway’s Chicago), Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit.

Schmigadoon!In the season one finale — which was canceled in August 2021 — Josh and Melissa reconciled. The Misfits then made their way to the bridge in hopes of returning to their former lives in New York City – but before viewers could see if they crossed over, the finale went black.

“It was intended that we not cross the bridge,” Key previously told TVLine. “We get a tangible ending, that is [Melissa and Josh] learned the lesson Schmigadoon presented to them, but there is more to this place that we haven’t explored. I know it exactly [series co-creator Cinco Paul] has a season 2 laid out in his head.” And now we’re just two and a half months away from seeing what Paul has in store Schmigadoon!‘s encore.
