Pizza Hut was slammed for proposing a drag performer book at Kids’ Reading Club

Social media users slammed Pizza Hut on Twitter this week for its book club’s latest reading suggestion, which includes a drag performer book for kids.

The Book It! Targeting PreK-6 grades, the program has listed a few books focused on the LGBTQ community on its website to celebrate Pride Month this June, including Big wig and Be Amazing: A Story of Pride.

Book it since 1984! has encouraged children across the country to read more as “schools across the country and millions of children” participate in the six-month program each year, according to the program’s Facebook page.

However, some Conservatives took to Twitter this week to accuse Pizza Hut of being “woken up” over the listing big wig, This is a book about a child who dresses in women’s clothing to enter a costume contest.

“Pizza Hut is totally woke up now we have to bankrupt them,” tweeted Brigitte Gabriel, the founder and leader of the grassroots movement Act for America.

“Papa John’s was and always will be better than Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut woke up, now they have to go broke,” wrote Nick Adams, president of the Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness.

Another one now Twitter user wrote: “Hello @pizzahut. Do you know how many pizza places out there that don’t try to turn kids into drag queens? Ask your marketing department if you don’t know the answer.”

Others even declared online that they would stop ordering food from the restaurant chain to promote LGBTQ-related issues.

“Pizza Hut has decided to join the transcult and recommend drag books to kids in Pre-K and above. I don’t know who told these companies it’s okay to teach young children kinky sexuality, but we’re going to end it. I will never order from @pizzahut again”, wrote one Twitter user.

Reactions from some Conservatives sparked criticism on social media from others who think it’s worth focusing on more pressing issues like gun control.

“We’ve had 30+ mass shootings in the last 3 weeks and we’ve got idiots worried about Pizza Hut and rainbows,” said another Twitter user.

Another person tweeted, asking, “Let me get this straight – the same people who are against the abandonment culture are now trying to … abandon Pizza Hut?”

LGBTQ+ rights have recently been targeted with legislation passed in various parts of the country, including Florida, where the Parents’ Rights in Education Act, dubbed in the media as the Don’t Say Gay Bill, was signed into law . In addition, some states, including South Dakota, Mississippi and Texas, have banned transgender women from participating in school sports.
