‘Red Sonja’ Producer Worriedly Admits ‘We Make A Lot Of Shit Movies’

After almost 15 years in development hell, the Red Sonya Reboot is finally coming to theaters. Really this time.

It would be an understatement to say that the project has gone through many ups and downs since it was first announced in 2008, going through the laundry list of writers, directors and stars at one stage or another, including Robert Rodriguez, Rose McGowan, Amber Heard, Simon West, Joey Soloway, Hannah John-Kamen and many more.

The swords and sorcery adventure is currently running in front of the cameras in Bulgaria Solomon Kane‘s MJ Bassett is in charge, with Matilda Lutz in the title role. Arnold Schwarzenegger considers the original to be the worst film he’s ever worked on, so the bar was certainly set very low.

Slightly concerning, however, is that the CEO of the production company, Nu Boyana, opened up about the outfit’s back catalog when speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, with CEO Yariv Lerner giving a worryingly candid assessment of his filmography.

“We make a lot of crappy films. We also make a lot of good films, but nobody watches them because they are art films. We are a factory at the end of the day. Our product is films.”

Those are rousing words to make a hype Red Sonya, which many people just assumed would disappear into the bowels of development hell, never to be seen or heard from again. It’s certainly not going to be an art film, that’s for sure, which has left wondering if it’ll end up falling on the “crappy” side of the equation.
