Rehabilitated sea turtle released back into the sea in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An adult loggerhead turtle was released back into the sea Friday after months of rehabilitation.

The turtle, named Tina, was released on Higgs Beach in Key West while onlookers watched her journey back to sea.

According to Turtle Hospital, the rehabilitation group that rescued Tina, Tina was rescued in Big Pine Key in July after she was found injured with a lanyard becoming entangled around her neck.

Her treatment consisted of wound care, antibiotics, vitamins, fluids and seafood.

The animal reportedly weighs 200 pounds and is around 40 years old.

The video shows Turtle Hospital staff carrying Tina to the shore, who was desperate to return to her home.

Spectators applaud the animal’s successful return to the sea.
