Report: Construction of an affordable housing complex is now underway in north Austin
Season North is located at 10010 N. Capital of Texas Highway where the former North by Northwest Brewpub is located.
AUSTIN, Texas — Construction is currently underway on a mixed-income, multi-family community in North Austin that will be called Season North.
According to that Austin BusinessJournal, construction started in October. The building will contain 116 units, three quarters of which will be affordable housing.
The building is located at 10010 N. Capital of Texas Highway, the site where North by Northwest Restaurant and Brewery once stood. The total cost is just over $39 million, provided in tax credits and loans from banks along with Travis County, Austin Housing Finance Corporation and Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation.
According to the ABJ, construction on Saison North is expected to be completed by May 2024. The building will be five stories tall and will have 48 one-bedroom, 44 two-bedroom, and 24 three-bedroom units. A total of 82 units will be reserved as affordable housing, the other 34 will be priced at market prices.
The community will also include a business center, leasing center, fitness center, bicycle parking lot, and a two-story clubhouse with a common room, according to the report.
North by Northwest closed its doors in 2020 after two decades in business. The developers previously told the ABJ that they plan to incorporate elements from the restaurant and brewery, including the cisterns, into the project’s final design. The name is also a tribute to the now defunct business.
