Resident Alien Season 2: Harry, McCallister Will Meet – Chris Sheridan

An alien baby with a deadly message, a race of aliens bent on destroying humanity, and a resurrected dead boy walking the city. yes there is a lot of go to Patience, Colorado these days.

In the Wednesday episode of Resident ForeignerHarry continued to ignore the trauma from his near-death experience by digging into comfort food and law & order. But after an injured Jay confronted Asta about missing her birthday, Harry couldn’t help but see an angry Asta, who knew immediately that Harry had messed up her memory. The two friends then had a difficult discussion about how to process and deal with negative feelings. Asta’s wisdom and life lesson reached the alien, prompting him to finally help a dying Gerard exit our mortal shell with a deadly drug injection.

But that only scratches the surface. Is there hope for a deeper connection between Asta and Jay? Will Harry overcome his fear of dying? And will he ever face the General, Joseph or the alien baby? (The last one is a resounding “Yes”!) Below, Creator and Executive Producer Chris Sheridan speaks to TVLine to share his thoughts on Season 2B so far and tease what’s in store for our favorite Patience residents in the final six episodes of the season .

On Asta’s journey for the rest of the season…
“Asta is having a really rough time after killing the guy from New York and it’s not going to get much better for a while because the person she has to lean on is Harry and Harry isn’t the best at it Give advice . His top advice to her is “just don’t think about it” what works for him. What Asta knows and what Harry will soon learn: You can’t just ignore your problems. Asta can’t just ignore the fact that she killed a guy. Harry cannot ignore the fact that he is now afraid of death and must face his mortality. When you ignore your deepest emotions, they’re still beneath the surface and they surface in different ways. So we’ll see more of that as Harry and Asta need to work together to heal each other.”

If there’s hope for Asta and Jay…
“As the rest of the season begins, Asta tries to figure out where she is in Jay’s life. She wants to have a relationship with Jay but she can’t bring herself to do it. It’s a journey for her to learn that you can’t really control how someone else feels about you, you can only be the best version of yourself. This is primarily their journey for the second half of the season.”

On Harry facing his own mortality…
“Harry made the mistake of erasing Asta’s mind, but when she finally finds out what’s happening she has to deal with it, and as she deals with it she becomes more aware of the importance of getting through the tough times in life , because those are the things that make you stronger. So Harry’s journey in season two is similar to Asta’s because it’s also about control. It’s about him trying to control those emotions inside of him, and he needs to get to a point where he realizes that you can’t really control his emotions. Emotions happen and you have to learn to deal with them. Harry is going to be going through some very moving things this season that will help him on this journey where he continues to realize that he is a victim of those emotions inside him and the best thing he can do is learn to deal with that Life.

On Terry O’Quinn’s return as Alien Tracker this season…
“It was great to have Terry back! He’s such a great actor and a very good guy. He has some fun stuff [coming up] also, which draws on his comedic skills. It was nice to see! [Alien tracker Peter Bach] will come to Patience looking for his alien. He’s not one to quit easily, so he won’t quit until he gets what he wants. But I think where it’s going might surprise some people.”

Whether Harry will finally meet General McCallister or Joseph…
“Harry, at the end of the season, will face both at some point. Enver Gjokaj [who plays the E.T. Joseph] and Linda Hamilton [who plays McCallister] (and of course Alan) are such great actors that it’s exciting to think about being able to do scenes with Alan and Enver together or Alan and Linda together. It would be foolish not to take advantage of that. So there is more to come in the second half of the season.”

About D’Arcy’s newfound happiness, or lack thereof…
“D’Arcy is someone who doesn’t have the skills to take care of himself. She seems so strong but she doesn’t know how to love herself. She feels like a failure because she fell at the Olympics years ago. She needs to learn to feel good about who she is or what she’s doing. It was hard for her because Asta lied to her for a season and a half. At the end of Season 1, she thought [the secret] was Jay. Then in the first half of Season 2 she felt like there was something else, but she stopped asking about it. What connects her to the world is her friendship with Asta. Asta is the weight that keeps her from floating away. But she doesn’t feel fully connected to Asta because she knows that Asta is hiding something from her. As long as that’s the case, she’ll try to find happiness elsewhere.

“The explosion in Episode 8 made her realize that she’s a mess and that maybe she should focus on her own shit. But it’s easier said than done. I think she’s still walking a little. She’s reaching for answers, and right now the answer is that a relationship will fix everything, which I think is very understandable for everyone. In a perfect world, we heal or repair ourselves and take that full person into a relationship. I think what mostly happens is that we feel broken and hope that the person we are in a relationship with will fill those empty holes. It’s the wrong reason to be in a relationship, but it’s what 95 percent of us do. She’s feeling a little empty and scared and she’s hoping that dating Elliot will fix that.”

And about that pesky alien baby now posing as a dead child…
“There will be alien baby. The baby is walking around and Harry will come face to face with him too. And the dynamic between them is pretty hysterical.”
