Sometimes a concept sounds so weird and crazy that you’re convinced it’s a fake movie that was previously shown tropical thunder or a movie the gang would see in an episode of it His field. In other cases, it’s actually one of Netflix’s biggest releases.
warrior nun battled through the crowds like few before in its opening week, eventually dominating the Netflix charts as Alba Baptista seems to be becoming synonymous with her bizarre comic book character. The second season just premiered on the streaming service and does the business for Netflix.
Baptista, who was recently confirmed to be in a relationship with Marvel star Chris Evans, plays the titular Warrior Nun. Based on an irreverent and knowingly silly comic book series by American manga artist Ben Dunn, the second season is currently ranked sixth with over 26 million hours viewed in its debut week.
The series follows an elite order of, well, warrior women who protect the best interests of the Catholic Church around the world. True to the ridiculous manga-style plot and over-the-top premise of the comic, it’s proven to have struck a chord with streaming audiences.
Baptista seems to be making a big splash with American audiences, although Evans’ fans are very unhappy with the idea of him dating. Because internet fandoms are cool, normal, and not easily cult-like. Whether or not Baptista’s relationship, which went public, affected the series’ viewership is not clear, but may not have hindered it.
