With its season one finaleThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power eventually provided answers to the ongoing mystery surrounding the true identities of Halbrand and The Strangerwhile laying the groundwork for an even greater adventure when the Prime Video series returns for Season 2.

THE UNKNOWN | The Mystics – The Dweller (Bridie Sisson), The Asket (Kali Kopae) and The Nomad (Edith Poor) – pursue The Stranger, Harfoot’s Nori, Poppy, Marigold and Sadoc also follow him in hopes of saving their great friend from death save danger that awaited him.

The mystics caught up with the stranger first, with the shapeshifting dweller luring him into their trap by posing as Nori. However, her intention was not to harm him, but rather To serve him. The sinister trio believed the stranger was in fact the Dark Lord Sauron, and they sought to lift the veil that was keeping his memories at bay. But they were interrupted by the stranger’s friends, who staged a chaotic rescue that involved a misdirection and hurling rocks at the robed figures.

When the Harfoots were outmatched, the Stranger came to their rescue, displaying even more impressive firepower. The mystics quickly realized that they were wrong about him, realizing that he was “the other”. The stranger was an Istari (aka a wizard), although we never found out the one. In the books, the Istari are physically strong and incredibly intelligent, although they appear as men of advanced age; The few we know of are Saruman the White (the original leader); Gandalf the Gray; Radagast the brown (who loves nature); and Alatar and Pallanda, the lonely Blue Wizards who went to the far east of Middle-earth.

With light, the stranger banished the mystics back into the darkness from which they came. Unfortunately, Sadoc was badly injured during the fight and knew he had little time left. The Harfoot elder kept the mood light, choosing to watch the sunrise rather than dwell in sadness. He then died peacefully while sitting with his friends.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of PowerThe surviving trio and the stranger rejoined the other Harfoots and it was soon time for another farewell. The stranger was on his way to his constellations on the map Sadoc had given him, and Nori went with him. After a tearful farewell to her friends and family, young Harfoot and her wizard friend set off – following the trail of a “sweet” smell that seemed familiar to the stranger.

MIRIEL | The mood among the Númenóreans on the ship was somber as Queen Regent Míriel adjusted to being blind. She would not face this alone, because Elendil had promised to stay by her side through everything. When they got home, they saw other ships with black sails, signaling that the king had died. Before he died, the monarch warned Eärien – whom he mistook for Míriel – to follow the old ways or the island was doomed. He showed her the secret passage that led to a room with the palantír.

HALF FIRE | Galadriel and Halbrand rode to Eregion, where the latter was tended by elves after the eruption of Mount Doom. The elves were running out of time, and had only a small supply of mithril to work with when it came to saving their people. The High King Gil-Galad considered the elves tardy, which meant they must leave Middle-earth and return to Valinor immediately – or face death if they stayed behind. He ordered Celebrimbor to ravage the city, but the ruler of Eregion was not ready to give up.

The master craftsman teamed up with Halbrand, who claimed to be a fellow blacksmith, to harness the power of the ore. They worked with the unruly material for weeks. Meanwhile, Galadriel was growing suspicious of Halbrand, who seemed to be influencing Celebrimbor more and more every day. She looked into old records and realized that the king of the southlands died a thousand years ago and never had any heirs. In truth, Halbrand lied about who he was. She confronted him and it was then that he confirmed his true identity: Sauron.

But like a real gaslighter, Sauron entered her mind and tried to manipulate her – via a vision of her dead brother Finrod – into thinking the Dark Lord was trying Help middle earth When she resisted, he offered her a seat next to him as his queen. She rejected him again, which angered the evil overlord.

When Galadriel drowned in her vision, Elrond found her nearly drowning real World. He pulled her out of the river and they both returned to Celebrimbor’s working tower, only to find Halbrand gone. He got what he needed, and Galadriel wanted the elves to have their own weapon. They created three new rings: Narya (the ring of fire), Vilya (the ring of air), and Nenya (the ring of adamant worn by Galadriel). Celebrimbor melted down Finrod’s dagger (because it was made of the purest gold and silver of Valinor) and combined it with a piece of mithril to create the trinkets.

In a final scene, Halbrand strutted toward a rocky outcrop until he spotted the massive volcano on the horizon. He was in his new home of Mordor.
